Love is an essential part of human happiness, all too often misunderstood.
If you want to achieve or maintain health, you don’t just hope for it, right? You exercise, eat right, see your doctor, all that good stuff.
Health, then, is the effect of specific actions and choices. It is the body’s involuntary response to the specific actions that promote and maintain well-being. Those actions do not guarantee health, but they sure raise the odds!
It is the same with love. Love is the soul’s involuntary response to virtue – to honesty, courage, gentleness and strength. If we wish to achieve or maintain love, we must act morally – not by self-sacrificing, or fusing, or enabling, but by living with integrity, depth and passion.
Love is not granted, love is never owed. Love is earned – like respect and health.
To stay healthy, you need knowledge. To earn or keep love, you also need knowledge.
That’s where philosophy comes in. That’s the central purpose of this conversation. To give you the knowledge you need to be happy. To love and be loved, with confidence and joy.
I hope that you will have a listen to a few Freedomain Radio podcasts, and use the power of philosophy to open your heart to the depth and power of true love!
