  • Re: This could be an interesting fellow to debate with...

Yeah I must agree, that was a really entertaining debate. Stef you were extrememly gracious. I still think (in my subjective personal opinion) that qtronman was a 'bit of an asshole', a bit rude or obnoxious and whatnot - but it was a very entertaining debate never the less. I give him props...

  • Re: Ayn Rand's Philosophy!

Objectivism is pretty much amazing, but I've had some bad experiences trying to get to know some randroids. Believe it or not, John Galt's speech was one of my favorite parts of the book! That's because it is really what the book is about - Atlas Shrugged is not just about the characters...

  • Re: The python philosophy

I've had a strong background in Objectivism before I decided that free domain radio was much less cult-ish (Here's the stroke that made me realize that I should have left a long time before I actually did: http://capitalism.informe.com/ron-paul-dt4-15.html , I am xckd, a subtle nod to xkcd ....

  • Raised by an anarchist or Hello from Seattle

Stef is often saying that he'd like to hear from people who were raised by libertarians/anarchists, so I figure that that's as good a reason as any to actually post an introduction on the forum. I'm usually loathe to post such introductions and just kinda drip into forum happenings as topics...

  • Anarchy: Why I’m Not an Objectivist

I posted this on my blog, but would like to get feedback from the members of this forum to help me refine my argument. After weeks of debating this subject I am ready to better define my philosophy. I am no longer an Objectivist because I do not support the idea of a government with a monopoly of protection...

  • Objectivist converted to an anarchist

Hey everyone, I have been listening to Freedomain radio and watching Stefan's videos on YouTube for nearly a year now. My girlfriend (sw33tlibery) recently joined this message board in hopes of finding similar minded people to help her with some issues she is dealing with. I have to thank all of...

  • Chx

Hello. I started with Ayn, stumbled upon Stefan on an Objectivist board, and, frankly, have found Molyneux's philosophy to be, if not better than Objectivism's, at least friendlier. Not that Objectivism is unfriendly: it's ethics are amazing, it's just that I'm sick & tired of...

  • Ought from Is: My Revised (and completely transformed) Stance

In another thread, I took the side that you cannot get an ought from an is. I think I may have been mistaken. I actually did a quasi-'first principles' thought experiment about morality. This is what I came up with: Any objective moral system for humans, what is referred to here as 'universal...

  • Re: Rand vs Libertarianism

Libertarian is a rather broad label, at least nowadays. Rand was a minarchist as per her defense of government in "The Nature of Government" (reprinted in The Virtue of Selfishness ). For a criticism of that essay, see Roy Childs' "Objectivism and the State: An Open Letter to Ayn Rand"...

  • Re: where is truth or false?

i found the whole thing rather psuedo-deep. what does the question "is a picture true?" even mean? a picture isn't a statement, which is always true or false. as a matter of fact, the only things that can be true or false are statements or ideas in a similar format. a picture is neither...
