    smokers church

Since june 1st it is prohibited to smoke in bars and restaurants and a bar tried to get out of it by starting a smokers church. It claims to believe in the holy trinity of fire, smoke and ashes.

They got fined 300 euro, so it seems not to be working, but still a clever attempt. Guaranteed to get publicity.

    lol Big Smile...

..."Church founder Michiel Eijsbouts says café owners who are trying to get round the ban on smoking will not be allowed to join. The church, he says, takes smoking very seriously."

Silly me, I thought the Netherlands was the most liberal (in the European sense of the word) country in Europe.

    Re: smokers church

The place here has a bit that reputation abroad. I guess it's the same stuff like everywhere else. I think the coffeeshops might have a problem, since smoking marihuana is also smoking. The prostitutes now also have to pay taxes and I even heard someone of the green left party in Amsterdam come forward with the plan to employ the prostitutes by the government because .......... ...

"you can take al the measures you want, but you can never be certain that someone is not taking the women's incomes."

They must have been referring to pimps, but government employed prostitutes will have a certainty that someone is taking their income and it aint pimps.

Right. Because the way to stop pimps is for the government to become the alpha and omega of all pimpdom. Oh yeah. Let's save the salary for the prostitutes. Right.

I'm not sure where I heard this, I think it's in the US or maybe Britain, but in some areas where it is illegal to smoke in bars but legal to smoke as part of something like a play, some bars have started to try to pass off the pretense that they're not bars but theaters in which everyone plays a role. From what I remember this didn't work.

Is that supposed to mean taking their incomes is a good thing or a bad thing? On the one hand he sounds like he's trying to portray himself as a friend of the prostitutes, but on the other it sounds like he wants to prevent prostitutes from getting untaxable income.

    Probably both, I bet.

Well, I don't know if it was a 'he' who proposed it, green left is usually topped up with women. It's pretty much what Charlotte says:You claim to protect them from thieves in order to take their money in taxes. It's the 'upb' of government. I expect the right will soon come with a program to blow you up in order to prevent you from getting killed by terrorists.
