freeman4liberty:My name is Daniel Tobas. I'm in the U.S. I am intrested
in learning more. I am also interested in learning about what
people are doing to promote market anarchy.
Hey Daniel. Welcome to Freedomain! How did you manage to find Stef and his podcast? Do you already consider yourself a market anarchist, or are you exploring the idea? Whereabouts in the US are you? Are you still in school, or are you employed?
Of course, Stef promotes market anarchy right here at Freedomain every single day, but perhaps not quite in the way you might be thinking. Unlike the standard libertarian message you see on other sites, which tend to promote a foregone conclusion as a "cause", the approach here is more methodological in nature, beginning with the basic philosophical approach of rationalism and empiricism. Rationally, we depend on the rules of both deductive and inductive logic, and empirically, we depend on the scientific method.
If you attempt to apply that approach consistently throughout the whole of your life, certain consequences from the drawn conclusions become apparent. For example, real freedom not only necessitates the elimination of the state and the rejection of mystical notions such as God and heaven, but also the reassessment of personal relationships not centered on mutual benefit and reciprocation. In short - the elimination of all unchosen obligations and impositions from your personal life.
The beauty of that idea, is that all one need do to promote market anarchy, is to simply live one's life as one chooses, and to reject the use of violence, aggression, or intimidation, in one's dealings with other human beings. That's it.
Stef has developed a few excellent theories to support all this, that are worth taking a look at over on his blog, if you haven't seen them yet. The first, is his own notion of "Universally Preferred Behavior", a Freedomain flavor of universal morality. The second, is the "Dispute Resolution Organization" or "DRO", which functions as a mental model for the way private agencies could offer for profit, such services as security, dispute mediation, restitution, insurance, product and personal integrity ratings, free market currency, and such.
If you are a market anarchist, do you have any thoughts on how such things could be done? What about your conception of freedom? Have you given much consideration to the question of personal integrity? What do you see as the most pressing problem in your life, or your community today, that might be answered through market anarchy?
