    Visions of the Future

Every sunday on the science channel there is a new series on called "Visions of the Future". The host is a guy by the name of Michio Kaku who is a theoretical physicist and appears in a lot of the science channel shows. Anyways, the show is obviously about the future and the technologies we can expect to see. Last sunday I was watching the show and Kaku was saying the in the future humans could successfully design perfect people. What that means is we can change the DNA in a way to make everyone illness free, smarter, faster, stronger, more beautiful, and have a longer life.

I was wondering what yall thought about this kind of stuff. Do yall think it is a good idea?

I'll have to check it out, I find this sort of thing very intriguing and enjoy thinking about how life will be in the future.  I think that genetically engineering ourselves would be great.  If we could keep authorities out of the technology then I believe it would bring a great amount of freedom and opportunity to our lives.

i just saw Gattica for the first time this weekend. It wasn't a particularly good movie (great looking film though!) but it deals with this issue. basically genetic engineering plus the state is a very bad idea. I don't see any problems with the technology itself.

    Re: Visions of the Future

Genetic engineering, I think, is inevitable. It's going to happen and it's going to impact everything we can relate to humanity. The problem is that it's going to happen much too soon. If it reaches us in full while we are still slave to illusions, it's going to be devastating to the possibilities of freedom in the future.

I got an image of the Jem'hadar from ST DS9.

I read a book by Kaku about the subject. What I am amazed about is how he can be optimistic about things getting more and more complex and powerful under the current state of violence and corruption. But you know how that is with these scientists.

I won't let go of past me, but rather invite him to chill at my birthday.
