I see the road, as a symbol of the journey of the individual 'soul' or mind, which we all have to take - alone - perhaps with friends along the way - but essentially alone - in sorrow and possible joy. The road as an image of life has been used so often in music & literature. If at the crossroads I get confused, I'll go straight ahead !
