I would like to put the song on Stef's youtube channel for freedomainradio. He has one of my other videos that Greg made there. It has got quite a few views. The idea would be to get as many views as possible for the song. We could post it everywhere.
The video could be whatever you would like, although I have had some ideas myself. What originally inspired the song was a guy who I once knew (although not too well) who died in Afganistan. He fell down an unmarked well. He was about 25, I think. There was no reason for him to be there, but his dad was the head of the military cadets in his hometown and I guess that was all he ever knew.
i thought it might be interesting to put the names of the soldiers who died in Afganistan on the bottom. Although I now question how effective that would be, compared to some kind of picture/video thing that follows the song a bit more. I find the notion of peace keepers so orwellian.
I would just like the video to make people think. Not so much about who died, but how futile and pointless their deaths were. It is sad, but I think it is important. I want to stress that they literally died for nothing at all.
Just a thought, there could be some kind of message, perhaps a list of things to live for with nice pictures, and then a list of things (illusions) that are so stupid to die for....country, race, culture, ect.
I am not sure how you could word it, but perhaps something like :
These are things to live for, not die for. War is never the answer...ever.
And for sure, something that would be a good link to freedomainradio.com
Maybe stef could suggest a hook line, but something about how only philosophical understanding will end violence and then an invitation to join freedomainradio.com
Here are the lyrics:
There ain't no peace that I can keep, with a loaded gun on these city streets.
The irony ain't lost on me, oh no
Well the nights are long and we're all alone, I wanna call you on the telephone,
Tell you that I'm coming home, oh yeah
But I don't make those kind of decisions, I left my fate up to politicians
And if I die for nothing, let them all know baby, said if I die for nothing, let them all know baby
Well, we're all here, but we're all lost, we can't come back, cause that lines been crossed
I'm not myself, I'm someone else, empty
I killed a man out on the street, when I close my eyes, he's all I see, he'll never leave, he's haunting me, save me
But I don't make those kind of decisions, I left my fate up to politicians
And if I die for nothing, let them all know baby, said if I die for nothing, let them all know baby
"When you salute the flag, you are standing in blood."
