[You've received this e-mail from the Secular Coalition for America's tell-a-friend system. The Secular Coalition for America is the national lobby for atheists, humanists, freethinkers, and other nontheistic Americans. From our office in the nation's capital, our full-time lobbyists and support staff engage public policy makers and the media on issues ranging from religion's influence on education and medical research to the privileging of faith groups by government. We are the first and only cooperative venture of nine member organizations coming together to improve the political situation of a previously unrepresented constituency: the tens of millions of atheists and agnostics in the United States.

For the first time in the history of the Democratic Party, the Democratic National Convention will begin with an Interfaith Gathering. As a Democrat and a member of the Secular community, I am disappointed by the decision to unite Democrats around religious values when not everyone who identifies as a Democrat, or supports the Democratic Party, is a person of faith.
To hold a unity event that is not totally inclusive of all the members of the Democratic Party is a mistake.

This is an e-mail that I just got from the founder of the skeptics group that I am a member of. The fact that most skeptics are democrats is bad enough but now apparently they are pooling thier political strength to try to change the system. Why don't these people get it? If they truly are devoted to employing skepticism in every facet of thier life, why is it then that they cannot connect the dots on the whole State = Evil thing. I mean athiesm? No problem. Quack health care scams? Piece of cake. But when it comes to addressing the rediculous and hypocritical nature of the state it's just beyond them. I mean I would at least feel a tad bit better if they were minarchists but no, these people think that passing another law is the solution for everything. I feel like we would have such a strong ally on our side if we could just open these people's eyes.
