Here's a (perhaps silly) thought: are there any FDR'ers out there with a spare room / couch that could put you up for a few weeks and help you find a job?

I would indeed appreciate that dearly.
Problem is, I have less than $100 to my name.

What do you guys think of me going to the Mormon house I used to live at?
They would expect me to go to church and help with rent, but other than that, I have no obligations.
They don't expect me to believe in their god, only to go to their church, which, I must specify, is an unnegotiable factor.
Personally, I think I would be relatively happy and comfortable there.

    Your thoughts?

I dunno, if you think you can get in an out of there quickly, living with the mormons may not be so bad, as obviously your not going to be joining the LDS church.  However, a long term stay may begin to conflict with your atheism, as of course, they believe in a book and a god that says you should be murdered.  But if you can use it as a short terms stop to get yourself on your feet, it would probably be pretty good.

If it comes down to a choice between the Mormon house and the army, I would choose the Mormon house. Yeah, you'll get dragged along to church, but they can't compell you to believe in their religion. I think it would be easier to stomach a bit of Mormon nonsense than try to reconcile your values with the military.

Can't you make some money wih remedial teaching, like helping kids with their home work? Public education is terrible, so there should be some parents who are willing to spend some money on that.

    AESTHETE:

    Why?

And what's with that RTR thing? What does that mean?

RTR ->  Real Time Relation ship

Why angry? It could be my personal issue, but it came accross to me as manipulative. I had the same feeling when I read: I can either go to the military or to the Mormons for help and I have 100 dollar to my name. Do you feel you have to do something immoral to make ends meet ? Could that be foo related?

But still all sympathy for your difficult situation, I am sorry if I come accross unempathetical, I don't mean to be. I have no knowledge of your history.

I think this would be a much, much better option than the Army. It would give you some breathing space, and going to church for a while is a small price to pay (especially if you are already secure in your atheism) compared to the soul-crushing experience the Army would almost certainly be.

Do it. You might only have to be in that situations for weeks or months until some light shines your way and you find a way out. No contracts, no guns, no violence. Best of luck bro =) Keep us updated!

We could set up a little collection for a bus or plane ticket, and then some to get you set up. Whose else is in?

I wonder what the degree of separation there is (if any) between a wage earner who repairs computers and pays taxes vs. someone employed by the military who repairs computers. It's the money we pay in taxes that keeps the bombs dropping.
Wouldn't it have to do with the degree of avoidability? It would take much more time and resources to avoid taxes and almost none to avoid the army. What do you think?

    So, I joined the Army.
    I got a 98 out of a possible 99 on the ASVAB.

Word of advice from my experience. This was many years ago and I can only assume that it is much worse now.

If you test out high in certain fields, you will be hounded relentlessly to join up.They even share your information between branches of the military. They will come to your home trying to get others to influence you. They will promise almost anything.Even what they cannot deliver.

My advice is to move and leave no forwarding address. I was not able to shake them until I  became homeless on purpose.I don't advise anything so drastic, but it helps if no one in your current location knows where you went.

    Good Luck!
