Reacurring dream theme of being unable to complete a simple task

I keep getting this recurring theme in my dreams of being unable to complete a task, or a simple action. These dreams are usually carefree and not particularly memorable, until I am given a task to do, or have a sudden choice thrust upon me. One that comes to mind is I was supposed to write out a school schedule at home for homework. I could not find a pen, a pencil, paper, or anything. I searched for the materials for the rest of the dream, usually failing to do these actions have dire consequences, such as being held back in some manner, or in some cases, such as the dream where I am unable to open a door to escape from an enraged dog, physical harm. I will fall down while running away, not be able to aim my hand to hit the button, or just be sluggish and lazy in general. I have no idea at all where this would come from, or what these symbols mean, but I would like to know. Thank you.

This is a recurring theme in my dreams, too. It often involves running away from something: something dangerous is around the corner and I need to get away, but as I try to run I float slowly off of the ground, so that no matter how hard or fast I try to run I can't get anywhere.

How did you feel about writing this school schedule out in your dream? What kind of consequence was the result of not finishing the task in this dream?

I thought it was just another mindlessly easy "Creative" Assignment. I think the punishment was failing the year and having to take the year over

What would you have changed about this "creative" assignment if you could in your dream? Is taking the year over an issue in reality?

No, retaking the year is not a real issue, it's just i am unable to find the materials or area to complete the task. I am also really disractable in these dreams, getting off topic and such

I keep getting this recurring theme in my dreams of being unable to complete a task, or a simple action...

I have had many dreams like this as well.  A recent one that comes to mind was me trying to catch a pop fly in a kickball game and as I began to try to move under the ball my body became immobile despite my greatest effort to move.  I don't have any knowledge of dream theory, but let us see if we can find a common theme from our lives.

Is it a common theme in your life to be nagged at to do something trivial?  Are you often criticized or yelled at if you miss a minor detail on a task?  For example, what would happen if you left a dirty dish out?  What would happen if you accidentally dropped a glass on the floor?

aside questions:  What brings you to this forum?   Have you listened to any of the podcasts or did you just now discover it through a search?
