    UPB and everyday moral issues

    Hi all,

Ive been meaning to ask this for a while but just never got around to it. Ive read the UPB book twice and consider it to be the best weapon developed so far against relativism and false arguments from morality. However i think it needs to be put to the test and applied to some issues which are constantly being debated in the political sphere in modern times. Whilst it did well to prove the anarchist standpoint, the moral issues dealt with in the book were pretty much limited to murder, rape and theft.

My question is whether UPB can be used to settle disputes when it comes to more everyday arguments such as abortion, animal rights, drugs, the death penalty, etc?

If so then please provide me with an example of how the UPB framework can be applied in these instances.

    Thanks

Thanks for your kind words about the book! We certainly have talked about most of those issues -- though I don't remember talking about the death penalty -- in a variety of shows, particularly the call-in shows. The book also does deal with property rights.

You might find the analysis of abortion in "Practical Anarchy" helpful - as for the others, since you seem to have a very good grasp of UPB, why don't you try writing article yourself, applying the principles? I would be thrilled to have a look at it.Smile

Hi Stef, thanks for the recommendation. Im looking forward to purchasing hard copies of both 'everyday anarchy' and 'practical anarchy'. Any idea when the latter will be available via LULU?

    Thanks
