    Greetings from Ted

    Hello fellow FDR enthusiasts!Big Smile

I am a long-time listener to the podcast series and reader of Stef's articles, first-time participant in the community. Some of you may have seen me lurking the chat over the past week or so, and to those much thanks for your patience and effort to include me in the discussions occuring.

Before stumbling upon FDR I had been involved in underground news networking and the "alternative" (read: conspiracy theory) media, and more recently was interested in political libertarianism and the Ron Paul magic carpet. These pursuits failed to inspire the kind of passion in me that FDR has; I remember Stef discussing his reaction to the philosophy of Ayn Rand as a young man around my age, and how he was somehow receptive to or very ready for the ideas before the fact--this is how I have felt about the ideas being discussed here at FDR. I am still only in the 300's of the podcasts, listening in order, but what has been covered so far has felt like it just immediately clicked for me.

Of course the job of a passive listener is much easier than the job of someone actively working to apply these methodologies and principles in their own life, and it did not take me but an hour in the chat to see my own personal issues surface in a disruptive manner. As easy as it has felt for me to grasp these concepts on a theoretical basis, I foresee a great deal of struggle ahead of me in defeating my own false self. Thanks to those among you who will choose to persist in curiosity in the face of my unwitting defense mechanisms and demons.

Welcome, Ted. It can be one helluva bumpy ride, but stick with it, and you'll soon see it will be all worth it!

    What was your favorite conspiracy?

That is a tough question. I guess that it would have to be "the conspiracy to infiltrate the alternative media and place disinformants at every level within it". This was a concept used by competing conspiracy theorists to try to discredit eachother. The kinds of credibility games that went on in those circles were amazingly involved.

Yeah, we had a fellow show up here about a year ago, insisting that Stef was a "disinformation agent" paid by some federal agency to discredit and humiliate him. He had a whole page on his website, and several threads on his message board devoted to it. It was.... well... curious, to say the least.

What was it that attracted you to the conspiracy approach to truth at first, and what eventually shook you out of it?

    Re: Greetings from Ted

There's an A. A. Milne quote that puts it well i think:

"The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking."

I wasn't getting what I needed from the public schools or the accompanying socialitic varsity sports scene, so I latched onto the "alternative" that was most available to me and seemed to be characterized by the things that were most important to me then (like individuating myself, "getting out from underneath the man", etc). The promise of hidden knowledge is always seductive, and that fact has resulted in a whole industry promising hidden and occult truths to the common man.
From there it was an easy jump to the Ron Paul camp, because he has spoken alot as a politician on issues that have in the past been ignored by all but conspiracy theorists. Then one day when I was browsing the Vlog at opposingdigits.com, and found some of Stef's youtube videos about the Ron Paul movement. This happened to coincide with the realization that Ronny's campaign wasn't going anywhere, and I was totally captivated by Stef's arguments so I decided to check out the FDR podcasts. The rest is history!
