My father and I have had it out before, but it's starting to come to a head.  I've told my parents that I wish to pursue a career in theatrical arts, and they're not happy.  In fact, my father told me on Saturday that if I go through with my dream, he'll consider me the worst failure on the face of the planet.  However, I am not going to bend this time.  I will not allow him to dominate me like before.  It's all a matter of time now.

Are you sure you are not pursuing this career because you know he hates it most ? That way he would still control your actions.

I considered that possibility, but the answer is no.  I'd never pursue a career simply as an act of rebellion.

Congratulations on the decision to not bend. I can only imagine how terrible it must be to hear anyone (let alone your father) say that they'd consider you the worst failure on the face of the planet. My jaw dropped at that. How did you feel in the moment when he said that?
